DESCO Volunteers at SAMSON Energy Sponsored Break Station at GBF's Bike Around the Bay

10/17/15: DESCO’s experience volunteering at Bike Around the Bay was so fantastic last year that DESCO readily accepted Galveston Bay Foundation’s (GBF) request for us to volunteer again this year. The two-day, 170-mile Bike Around the Bay event seeks to raise awareness of Galveston Bay’s importance to the local economy and ecosystems as well as to raise funding to support the efforts of GBF. On Saturday October 17, 2015 DESCO volunteers (Vice-President Gary Kowalski, with Ally Altemose, Paige Hampton, Misti Little, and Roman Mayo) along with employees of Samson Energy and GBF, manned Break Point 6 at the Bolivar Ferry Landing. This was the last break point for riders before they caught the ferry to Galveston to finish up the first leg of their ride around Galveston Bay. DESCO cheered as the fastest riders rolled in before noon and then encouraged the last ones arriving just before 5:00 pm as they neared the completion of their 94 mile ride for the day. SAMSON sponsored DESCO’s own Errin Bryner and her husband Rhett. They pedaled in to the rest stop exhausted but smiling. In addition to Gatorade and water, the break station provided oranges, bananas, pickles and pickle juice, as well as other snacks to provide sustenance for the final 9.6 miles to complete the day at the Galveston Seawall. DESCO had a lot of fun volunteering once again with Samson Energy for the Galveston Bay Foundation and hope to be out there cheering once again next year!
