DESCO Volunteers with Galveston Bay Foundation for the 2016 Crab Trap Removal

2/20/16: DESCO volunteers Chris Little and Paige Hampton helped support Galveston Bay Foundation at Fort Anahuac Park for the 2016 Crab Trap Removal Event. Abandoned crab traps endanger the lives of aquatic species such as crabs, turtles, river otters, and even birds. Every year, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department shuts down crabbing in Texas waters for a 10-day period, in which volunteers are allowed to remove these littered traps. There were more than 50 volunteers who came out to help on Saturday and in total we removed 268 crab traps from the bay! We had a lot of fun volunteering once again with Galveston Bay Foundation and hope to be out there again next year.
